Waterfront wind energy

Sustainable principle:

generation of renewable clean energy

Potential benefits:

Clean air, Public health

Description:

Port locations have an advantageous position with regard to wind power. First, these are located at the sea side with often windy conditions. Second, cost efficient onshore connections can be made, close to many users of energy.  This means the infrastructure needs for wind parks are not nearly as costly as for offshore wind locations, with relatively high wind energy fields. In many regions people are opposing wind mills close to residential areas, and are seen as detrimental to landscape quality. Ports are often already industrialised zones where residential areas are kept at distance.
